MISSION:CODE both engages and teaches children that computers do not think for themselves, but that they are programmed by humans. Not only computers, but all digital software, including games, apps, and websites, as well as hardware and other machines, such as microwaves, airplanes and traffic lights contain programs that are made by people. MISSION:CODE inspires children to understand that they can program these machines themselves.

While engaged in MISSION:CODE, children will apply 21st century skills to solve problems like real programmers. This means that they are going to collaborate and communicate while identifying problems, testing solutions and debugging their programs.

What’s Programming
Students create a username and password along with a unique nickname and learn to create a set of instructions for a computer to follow (in order to complete a task or solve a problem)

Sequences
Students learn how a set of instructions that are run in order one at a time from beginning to end enable a computer to perform a task or solve a problem.

For Loops
Students learn the concept of loop identifying patterns (instructions that are repeated) to solve MISSION:CODE levels in fewer more efficient steps.

Relative Directions
Students learn and develop an understanding of relative directions and spatial reasoning.

Algorithms
Students learn to identify algorithms in everyday life as they recognize when to use relative and absolute directions to create a pattern.
