Terms & Conditions

For Special Offers or Merchandise please refer to the receipt at time of purchase.

For After-school Programs and Summer Activities:

Refund policy: Up to 5 days before class start date: Full refund. Within 5 days and prior to class start - Mad Science credit only. After class start - Mad Science credit at our discretion based on circumstances of withdrawal. No credit is issued for classes already attended.

Please be on time for pick-up and follow the school's dismissal policy. In most cases you will need to go into the school to pick up your child, but other schools require dismissal at the lobby/entrance. ALL children will be subject to sign-out procedures which may include requiring identification. If anyone other than the designated person is picking up your child, you must send a note that day with your child to give to the Mad Science instructor.

WE MAY NEED PARENT VOLUNTEERS! PARENT VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE A CREDIT OR SCHOLARSHIP IN EXCHANGE FOR ASSISTING IN EVERY CLASS OF THE TERM. IF YOU WANT TO BE A PARENT VOLUNTEER, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE AT 413-584-7243 OR SEND US AN EMAIL. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE CLASS AS A PARENT VOLUNTEER UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED BY OUR STAFF.

Snow, Skip Day and Cancellation Policies: Classes may be cancelled, postponed or rescheduled due to circumstances beyond the control of Mad Science. Known skip and early-release days on which Mad Science is not held are already programmed into the class schedule. When school is not in-session or there is early release, Mad Science classes do not meet (Exception: Special Early Release Mad Science Programs). If there is an unscheduled skip day due to snow or other circumstances, parents will be notified by phone and e-mail. Please make sure we have up-to-date contact information for you. Typically the class will be extended into the next available week as make-up. Mad Science will make every attempt to notify parents of a cancelled, postponed or rescheduled class as soon as reasonably possible. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL MAD SCIENCE BE LIABLE FOR CLAIMS OF INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM A POSTPONED, RESCHEDULED OR CANCELLED CLASS OR SESSION.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS: Please discuss with your little scientists that although Mad Science is designed to be a fun after-school experience, we are very serious about the need for appropriate behavior. We expect our students to conduct themselves as they would during the school day and to respect the instructor, their fellow students and the classroom. We expect them to listen to the Mad Scientist during our brief explanations, demonstration and instruction periods, raise their hands when they have a questions and refrain from disruptive outbursts. We also expect children to listen to directions, participate, be respectful of our equipment and share during our hands-on and group activities.

All children need reminders from time-to-time. We use a simple, 3-step method which we communicate to children repeatedly throughout our program: 1) Warning 2) Time-Out 3) Call Parent. Inappropriate, disruptive behavior takes away from Mad Science time and is unfair to all the rest of the students and parents who expect a positive Mad Science experience. If we have to call you about your child, we will discuss the situation, give you the opportunity to discuss it with your child, and depending on the severity, may suggest or require that you come sit with your child at the next class. In our experience, parental suppart will resolve the situation in most cases. However, repeated disruptive or dangerous behavior after parental involvement may result in a child's dismissal from Mad Science.

If you have any advice or concerns about your child's self control in a Mad Science classroom - which in this program includes some potentially messy chemicals and fragile equipment - please contact us to discuss the matter.

LATE PICKUP POLICIES: Please respect the time of our busy instructors. If a parent is more than 10 minutes late in a school which requires meeting for dismissal at a designated area other than the classroom, their child may be taken back to the classroom for supervision while the Mad Scientist packs up. (They may even be put to work as a lab assistant for clean-up!) In such a case we ask that parents wait patiently at the designated pick-up area (or come to the classroom if the school allows) Your child will be walked back down with the instructor, usually within 10-15 minutes. If you are late picking up, we will attempt to contact you or your emergency numbers. If there is no contact within 20 minutes we must notify school administration and if we can not make contact at any of the numbers within 30 minutes we may need to notify law enforcement. Note if the school has an after-care program, your child may be signed over to them at your expense. REPEATED LATE PICKUPS MAY RESULT IN FINES OR DISMISSAL FROM THE MAD SCIENCE CLASS. Thank you for your understanding.

All that said, we like to remain ALL ABOUT FUN AND INSPIRING SCIENCE! We are very much looking forward to giving your child a unique, innovative learning experience with Mad Science!
